Using Vimeo properly with your demo reel

I recently had to revise many applications to form the feature film animation team Capture the Flag and called my attention misuse many artists platforms Vimeo and Youtube. Most artists use these platforms to upload their demoreels because they are free and reproduce the video at a very fast speed. This is fantastic, but they have a big problem… whenever actualizáis your demoreel and go up a new video on Vimeo or Youtube, that video has a different code and a link to access different from above. Here's the big problem! Many of you you send your application including this link to review the demoreel and whenever actualizáis your demoreel that link changes. Vimeo offers the option of replacing the video while maintaining the link, but it is clear that people do not know or forget to do. I find many times I read an email application and click on the link of your reel aparacece the following message on Vimeo:

PAGE NO FOUND

Sorry, there is no video available. Or was deleted or never existed. These are the mysteries of Internet.

At that time I remain astounded with the mysteries of the Internet and I think that artist has lost the opportunity to get a job. You have to understand that many times between the time when you send an application and review process may take months or even years. Since there are computers, in companies where databases are created and stored all applications are classified. Each time a new selection process is done these databases are queried and it is very possible that they can call you for a year job after sending your application.

From my point of view, the best option is …

CREATE A BLOG

There are many platforms that allow you to create a blog for free. In my opinion the best are Blogger and WordPress. In the main blog page includes your demoreel and a link to your resume. What you must send in your application is ¡A link to you blog! This link will never change and the person reviewing your application will always be your demoreel updated. Simple and effective!

I hope this advice will prove useful, because there is nothing more devastating to find a link that does not work 🙁

  1. Good Maxi,

I find it as a great idea, thanks for sharing. I've been thinking about creating my own blog for a while and you've given me the boost I needed. Do you think that having a website with your own domain in which you can include the blog would work similarly?

    Thank You, Greetings!

    • Hello Irene! I'm glad the article was helpful to you. In principle the most important thing is that the direction never changes. That the link you send, either to a website with its own domain or to a blog, never never change.

      Luck!
      Maxi
